Christina Paterson and Katie Kaminski, Mayfair Diagnostics
Breast Imaging Program and use of GE Invenia ABUS
Since 2016, Mayfair Diagnostics has been expanding their breast wellness program, which included the introduction of the GE Invenia ABUS machine. This state-of-the-art technology is the first of its kind to be approved by the FDA as a screening tool in conjunction with a mammogram for early breast cancer detection.  Specifically, it was designed with women who have dense breast tissue in mind. Dense breast tissue can hide small cancers on mammograms, but the GE Invenia allows us to look at the breast in a much larger capacity, compared to handheld ultrasound. It also creates a coronal image that allows the reader to detect irregularities in the breast tissue that may not be easily seen on a 2D axial view. Today, we would like to show you how the Invenia works, including its benefits compared to handheld ultrasound or mammography alone. We will also discuss how Mayfair Diagnostics has altered our workflow to ensure our patients are receiving the highest level of breast imaging care, and present some cases that have proven that the ABUS machine is a great tool in breast cancer detection.

2:15 – 3:00

Bryan Witt
Executive Director of Diagnostic Imaging for Saskatchewan Health Authority

Bryan will discuss the provinces journey in building a single Saskatchewan Health Authority.  On December 4, 2017, the Saskatchewan Health Authority launched, transitioning 12 former Regional Health Authorities to a single provincial health authority.  The Saskatchewan Health Authority is the largest organization in Saskatchewan, employing over 44,000 employees and physicians responsible for the delivery of high quality and timely health care for the entire province.

Establishing one provincial approach to plan and deliver health-care services will break down geographic boundaries and service silos, to provide more consistent and coordinated health-care services across the province.  The work to unify the health system under a single organization and coordinate system-wide transformation, for the benefit of people working in the system and those that use it, will be a multi-year journey in collaboration with patients, health-care providers and partners across the health system.
